Charles' Story
On March 8, 2007, Mark and
Sara Reges' eight year old son, Charles, was hit by a car in Potomac
Village, Maryland. Charles was airlifted to Children's National
Medical Center in Washington, D.C. with life threatening injuries.
Charles suffered traumatic brain injury (TBI), a broken leg, a
bruised lung. He spent 14 days in a coma and was hospitalized
a total of 51 days.

Due to the hard work of
many doctors and nurses at Children's, Charles not only survived,
but his recovery is nothing short of miraculous. During Charles'
treatment, the Reges family realized that one of the most stressful,
risky and expensive procedures was moving Intensive Care patients
from the Intensive Care Unit to radiology for CT scans. To show
their appreciation to the hospital and medical team, the Reges
family is raising $400,000 to purchase a "CereTom" - a recently
developed portable scanner - designed specifically for patients
suffering from TBI. The Reges family hopes that the CereTom will
give children a greater chance of recovering from TBI so that there
are more success stories like Charles'.
On
October 26, 2007, the Reges family
hosted an Oktoberfest event at their restaurant, the Old
Angler's Inn in Potomac, MD, to celebrate Charles' recovery promote
support for the CereTom donation.
